Pumpkin Spice Flavor Greenies

The scenario is as old as time. You walk in the door after a long day of work and your dog jumps on you. Giving you lots of puppy breath kisses. While your pup is just trying to show you how much they missed you, they certainly do need something to sweeten their breath!

Pumpkin Spice Flavor Greenies

Thankfully, dog dental chews can help. Not only can they freshen your pup’s breath, but they can also help with gum health and reduce plaque and tartar buildup. Which is why my family buys Greenies from Chewy.com. And this months variety? Fall-inspired Pumpkin Spice Greenies treats!

Greenies dental sticks for dogs help fight plaque and tartar build-up to keep your dog’s oral hygiene in check. These natural dog chews are low-fat and include vitamins to keep your pup healthy.

My three girls, Sassy, Roxie, and Scout are very picky. Sassy, my beautiful little Shih-Tzu, so much so she rarely takes treats – not even cheese or a bit of meat. But Greenies are always a hit! They always get excited when they receive Greenies.

We love that each tasty chew features added vitamins and minerals, and is formulated to provide complete and balanced nutrition for adult dogs. Helping to keep the cuddles coming and give your best friend the dental health he deserves with fresh breath too!

Grove Collaborative Review

If I could describe my current season of life I would say that I am a striving minimalist. Which is why I buy many of our home’s cleaning, beauty products, and household staples from Grove Collaborative.

Grove Collaborative Review

Many of their products are sustainable. As with each purchase you are working with Grove Collaborative to replant trees on the continent. A mission that warms my zero-waste heart! You can find out more about their company efficacy and values here!

Grove Shipment Graphic

Grove Collaborative first came onto my radar a couple of years ago when a fellow influencer I follow reviewed her first shipment from Grove, and I instantly knew I needed to order for myself. I recently received my latest box of Grove products, which I must admit, is very much like opening a present to myself each month.

Grove Collaborative Review

In my current order I received:

  • Mrs. Meyer’s Multi-Purpose Everyday Spray (lemon verbena)
  • Mrs. Meyer’s Hand Soap (lemon verbena)
  • Mrs. Meyer’s Dish Soap (lemon verbena)
  • Grove Collaborative paper towels
  • Grove Collaborative Facial Tissues

Grove Collaborative Review

Keep in mind, your first order may look different from mine. As when you currently sign-up for the service you’ll receive a 5-piece gift set. Including a set of Mrs. Meyer’s, including dish soap, hand soap, and hand lotion, plus a pretty tray or cleaning caddy to keep everything looking tidy.

When placing your order, if you purchase $40.00 worth of products you will also receive a bottle of Grove Collaborative Hand Sanitizing Spray (blood orange scent), a $3.95 value.

Subsequent orders over $40.00 will also receive different bonus gifts, each with a retail value of at least $2.99. In the past, I’ve received additional bottles of hand sanitizer, dish brushes, dish brush replacement heads, Grove Castille soap, or lip balm.

Something else to consider is the cost of shipping. There are two tiers for Grove customers. You can elect to become a VIP member, their exclusive membership group. By participating as a VIP shopper, you will receive free shipping and a free quarterly gift, valued at $5.00 or more.

The cost of the VIP membership is $20.00 each year and all new members placing their first order (with minimum orders for delivery being $10.00 or more for VIP members) will automatically be placed into this program for one month. But you can cancel your membership at any time. Shipping for non-VIP members is a flat fee of $2.99 for each shipment.

If you have a large family and plan to place orders monthly, you’ll want to stay with the VIP program.

Then there’s the matter of future orders. New VIP customers are automatically set up with “auto shipments” but don’t let that scare you away! You can modify your shipping options for future orders at any time. You can change the date of shipments, delete products you won’t need, or add additional products as well. You can skip, delay or cancel auto shipments at any point too.

You’ll also receive several email notifications before your order ships to allow you to charge or delay orders in your cart.

As for the products themselves, I have found that Grove’s prices are comparable to that of Target and Amazon Subscribe & Save but with a much larger selection of B-Corp products. Essential for those like myself who live beyond a reasonable driving distance of small town living. A true value and convenience!

I’ve also tried the following products from Grove Collaborative and have loved them:

  • The above-mentioned Mrs. Meyer’s products
  • Method Anti-Bac Toilet cleaner
  • Method Hand Soap
  • Grove Reusable Snack bags and Sandwich Bags
  • Grove Collaborative aprons
  • Grove Collaborative glass spray bottles

My favorites? The Grove Collaborative glass spray bottles! They help me create and properly store many of my favorite DIY cleaners I love to make at home!

Grove Collaborative Review

And while I love the name brand stuff, including the seasonal lines of Mrs. Meyers products, the Grove Collaborative items have really been the showstoppers. The quality of the bottles, towels, coconut scrubbers and cleaning products have been top notch. I’m looking forward to trying out more! They look adorable sitting on my sink-side cake stand!

So far, I’ve been really impressed with my Grove Collaborative experience and if you are interested in giving it a go, you may consider using my referral link. You still get great prices and in addition, you would receive a 5-piece gift set (instead of the usual 5-piece pictured above) with your first order. A total win-win for fall cleaning at home!

Now I want to ask, have you tried Grove Collaborative at home, and if so, what has been your favorite products? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!

Pretty Litter Subscription Review

Please note, I was provided with samples from Pretty Litter to facilitate this post. All opinions expressed are my own.

Pretty Litter Subscription Review

There are few things more important to me that the health of my pet cats at home. Especially when it comes to bladder crystals and the potential health threats they pose to cats as they mature in age. Which is why I was curious to try the Pretty Kitty Cat Litter Subscription Service.

The only litter that tests alkaline, acidity, and present blood levels of your cat’s health through Ph sensitive crystalized litter. A serious tool in your potential pet health arsenal as cats are notorious for hiding prolonged illnesses from owners.

Pretty Litter Subscription Review

I was also interested in the product with its initial claims to be lightweight, dustfree, absorbs odors, is highly absorbent, and eco-friendly. A must in our zero-waste home.

But more importantly, I wanted to see for myself how this litter changes color and alerts you to any abnormalities in your cat’s urine. The folks at Pretty Litter provided me with four 4-pound bags of litter to facilitate this review. With the set of four bags retailing on their site, as part of a buy-three-get-one-free promotion, totaling $68.00 for a one month supply with free shipping on all orders in the continental United States and Canada. Perfect for our three cats and their four litter boxes at home.

Keeping in mind that prices also reflect $21.00 for one cat, $39.00 for two cats, and again, $68.00 for 3–4 cats. Bulk ordering is also available.

Pretty Litter Subscription Review

My litter arrived well packaged, in re-sealable bags and compostable packaging, that was easy to handle and very light to the touch. Following the instructions, I thoroughly sanitized each litter box and then filled each box 2-3″ full for one month’s use.

Pretty Litter Subscription Review

After filling the boxes, I read up on Pretty Litter’s Ph Guide on the back of each bag. Which stated that owners should be on the lookout for the following:

  • Normal cat urine will appear yellow to olive green patch in the litter
  • Anything blue, red or orange/brown needs monitoring for 24-48hrs and if no improvement, a trip to the vet is advised.
  • Orange or brown results means there’s bilirubin in the urine which could suggest liver problems.
  • Red means there is blood in the urine, which may not be visible.
  • Blue is alkaline, which may mean lower urinary tract issues, struvite crystal formations or kidney problems.

Pretty Litter Subscription Review

Soon after filling the boxes, they were quickly used. With none of our cat’s objecting to the change in their normal litter. Despite the litter being quite fine, I did notice that it had not been tracked any more than other types of cat litter I have used previously. Then in terms of attachment of litter to fur, as is sometimes the case, we had no problems with any sort with Pretty Litter. Owners of long-haired cats may find that this litter may get stuck in the fur – probably no more than other types of litter, but is still something to consider.

Pretty Litter Subscription Review

Finally, according to the packaging you should mix in the yellow crystal back into the litter, which I reluctantly did, and was quite surprised how they disappeared into the litter. You do however need to remove the solids from the litter, as you would traditional litter during your daily litter scooping sessions at home. As you can see, Pretty Litter clumps very well.

Within a week of usage, the granules started to develop an overall yellow color, which is normal. In the three additional weeks to follow deepened in color again and as time went on, the granules became drier and free-flowing. Signaling a time to change the entire contents of our litter boxes. Which is a nice change over the weekly cleaning of previous versions of cob and clay litter we have tried previously.

Pretty Litter Subscription Review

My favorite things about Pretty Litter? It’s odor absorbing qualities. Despite never actually throwing away part of our litter this month, there were no smells. Which is awesome as two of our litter boxes reside in the high-traffic, highly noticeable vicinity of our kitchen. This was partially noticeable as we are in summer when our litter box tends to smell more due to residual water vapor and heat from the air of the as that is when litter trays seem to smell more. The granules were easy to work with so it really is a low maintenance product.

Pretty Litter Subscription Review

The downsides? The price. Currently, Pretty Litter is double the price of our previously used cob, zero-waste compostable litter and triple the price of clay litters we have purchased in the past from big box stores. However, the price is easy to understand in light of the convenience of it being delivered to our home and the healthful properties this Ph balanced litter provides our cats at home.

Overall, we are quite pleased with this litter and its service. We would definitely use this product again. You can check out Pretty Litter here for yourself. Now, I want to ask, what do you think of Pretty Litter? What do you usually spend on kitty litter each month? Share your thoughts and opinions below!

Perfect Ponds For Perfect Gardens

When people think about the perfect garden, I’m sure they imagine it with a pond. A pond would be a great feature for your outdoor space, as lots of research shows that water in a garden can add a relaxing quality, and will help you unwind when you are enjoying all that fresh air.

Ponds also encourage a variety of wildlife into your garden, which can help the whole space to thrive as a brilliant ecosystem. Unfortunately, though, some people think that all you need to do is simply add a pond to a garden and then forget about it.

Of course, this isn’t the case, as the pond will need plenty of maintenance to ensure it stays in good shape. Here are some top tips that can help you stay on top of your new garden pond.

https://pixabay.com/en/frog-amphibian-animal-nature-green-3625511/

Automate The Cleaning

Firstly, you need to make sure that the cleaning of your pond is automated. Thankfully, you’ll be able to find a variety of pumps for your pond that can do all the necessary cleaning for you. Of course, if you really want to, you could keep on cleaning it manually by hand, but you will find that it is a lot of work that could be very time-consuming. Once you pop in a cleaning pump, the machine will do all the hard work for you!

https://pixabay.com/en/water-fish-japan-carp-animal-1912606/

Keep It Aerated

It’s also necessary to add a pump that will keep your pond aerated. There are a lot of reasons why this is important, but the most important one has to be that it can greatly reduce the amount of muck and dirt that builds up in the pond. That’s not the only important reason, though.

Aeration will also improve the overall quality of the water by increasing its oxygen levels and reducing unnecessary nutrients. You will find that when a fish dies, a few others will follow it, and this is usually because the oxygen levels in the pond are too low. As aeration prevents them from dipping too much, you will find that it helps to keep all the fish in your pond a lot healthier so that they can live longer!

Don’t Leave It Too Tidy

Some people like to keep very tidy ponds so that there is no plant out of place. However, this can actually be a critical error as there is the chance you could end up making the pond too tidy. A healthy pond needs a good mix of various habitats, so it’s important that there is plenty of stones, mud, plants, leaves, and twigs in the water.

These can all be used by the wildlife to make their perfect habitat. The more there is, the better chance they have of surviving the long winter months. If you clean up your pond too wel, and remove too many items, then it could make it difficult for wildlife to survive in it. As a result, the pond won’t be quite as healthy as you think.

Mix The Plants

As well as ensuring there are plenty of plants, it’s also essential to make sure that there is a good mix of them. Just having one variety of pond plant won’t be enough to help wildlife species survive in it.

Having a good mix of underwater plants, floating leaves, and those that grow out of the water will create a thriving ecosystem within the pond as it will all encourage as many species as possible to come and make their home in the waters.

Natural pond part 8: edges all done! Finally! Lots of natural wood, stones, old peat with moss, plants and more. When the water in the pond reach its highest level it’ll overflow by the “beach” and water the new Japanes maple I’ve planted there. Now I’m redoing the area next to the bird aviaries. Planting more Japanese maples, Hellebores and such. Will show when it’s all done.

Don’t Forget Shade

Most people forget to add sufficient shade to their garden pond. This can be detrimental to the health of all the pond plants and wildlife that are in it. That’s because not everything that lives in the water will be able to survive in bright sunshine, and they will need some cooling shade above them.

However, this is a very fine balance that you need to get right as there can be such a thing as too much shade. You should also be careful if you are relying on surrounding trees and bushes to provide your pond with shade. Falling leaves could end up falling into the water and will end up decaying on the bottom of the pond, which could release some toxins into the water.

https://pixabay.com/en/lotus-greenhouse-waterlily-garden-917616/

Never Add Tap Water

There might be times when the water level in your pond seems to decrease significantly. This is usually the case in the summer when the weather gets hot and the water evaporates. Thankfully, though, water levels fluctuate naturally, so you should find that your pond fills up on the next rainy day. However, if you go through a heatwave, you might need to top up the pond yourself to protect its plants and wildlife.

Whatever you do, though, never add water straight from the tap into the pond as it could be filled with high levels of nutrients that the plants and wildlife aren’t used to.

https://pixabay.com/en/nature-water-striders-gerridae-3350989/

Think Carefully Before Adding Fish

Finally, it’s worth considering whether you really want fish in your pond or not. Generally speaking, fish won’t mix with other pond wildlife, so if you do add some fish, you will find that the likes of frogs, toads, and newts won’t really visit your pond.

If you do want to see a mix of wildlife in your pond, like frogs and newts, then it’s a good idea to leave fish out of it. No matter what you do, though, don’t ever transfer fish or other wildlife from another pond into your own. This could introduce various diseases and cause big problems for all the plants. If you do want to add some fish, make sure you go to your local pet shop or reputable supplier.

In all, there is a lot that you need to think about and consider when you are installing a garden pond. There is a lot of maintenance, but it shouldn’t be too difficult to keep on top of!

Why We Love Ever Clean Cat Litter at Home

This post is sponsored by Chewy.com expressed here are my own.

Boo Raddley

This is Boo Radley. International cat of mystery. The cutest of kittens. He was saved at four months from a dog fighting ring where cats were bait. Out of a litter of 6, only he & his brother survived.

Despite a rocky start in life, Boo Radley has led a very charmed life. He was rescued by a local cat sanctuary where we were lovingly cared for prior to our adoption. While our family went through the adoption process knowing we would only able to adopt one kitten, it was not an easy day for us. As visiting the sanctuary was heartwrenching for our family.

Seeing row after row of beautiful, fuzzy faces, brought home for us how dire and necessary adopting, and not shopping, for our fuzzy friends was. After several very sad hours, we left the sanctuary with the most precious male tuxedo kitten, Boo Radley.

Saving that tiny, playful, precocious, ball of love from such an initially horrible situation felt to me, the right way, at the right time, of making a small difference in this world.

I know Boo Radley and the other cat’s just like him are appreciative of being adopted in his own pur-fect way. One of the greatest decisions we ever made was to bring Boo into our home and to make sure that Boo has the best life he can, we make sure to purchase food, toys, and litter products.

Keep It Green & Save Some Green: Home Hacks To Help You Save Money And The Environment

We live in an enlightened age. New advancements in scientific research, greater global connectivity, and more widespread knowledge thanks to documentaries like An Inconvenient Truth, A Plastic Ocean, and Cowspiracy are slowly bringing us to the realization that there is no Planet B.

As such, we can no longer plead ignorance anymore when it comes to the damage that our consumer choices are doing to the environment. We all want to do our little bit to make the world a better and more sustainable place for our children so that they can grow up surrounded by the beauty of the natural world, but not all of us have the cash spare to install solar panels or transform our plumbing infrastructure.

The good news is that you can actually make your home greener while saving some green. All of these environmentally friendly hacks will save you money while working towards a better future by:

Rethinking your cleaning products

Most of us are unaware of the environmental nightmare that lurks under the kitchen sink. Not only are the cleaning products we store there harmful to our kids, those harsh chemicals are harmful to the planet, too. We’ve been duped into believing that we need one product for bathrooms, one for kitchens, one for floors and one for our cookers but the truth is that one multipurpose cleaner can do the job just as well. Check out this natural cleaning spray made from non-chemical ingredients. It’s the only cleaner you’ll need for virtually any surface. It’s even made with solar energy!

Let there be (sustainable) light

Most of us don’t know just how much energy we’re wasting by using incandescent bulbs. These work by superheating a filament, providing us with both heat and light. But what lots of people don’t realize is that 90% of the energy generated is in the form of heat and only 10% on the light. Essentially this means that they are wasting 90% of the energy you use on them. Switching to energy-saving Compact Fluorescent Lamps. Over its lifespan, a CFL bulb is thought to save the average household around $57.

Green on your plate, green for the planet

If the allure of takeout and fast food gets too much for your family at times and you really need some extra incentive to stock up on healthy foods, chow down on this nugget of knowledge. A plate that’s full of locally sourced fresh fruits and veggies is far less environmentally damaging than one that’s full of meat and processed foods. Meats and dairy products require an enormous amount of land, water, and resources to cultivate, not to mention costing far more than fresh produce. Switching to a diet that’s mostly or even entirely plant-based can give your whole family a balanced and nutritious diet while also voting with your wallet for a more sustainable future. Opt for farm fresh whole foods and you’ll also eschew environmentally damaging single-use plastic packaging, too!

Just a few little changes around the home are all it takes for a cheaper, greener future!

The 5 Best Ways to Unclog your Drains at Home

Disclosure: I was provided samples of products to facilitate this post and am being compensated for sharing this information. Opinions remain my own. Thank you.

We all know the warning signs. The sink takes a little longer to drain. You notice water pooling around your feet in the shower. And the odors. The strange, unpleasant earthy odors. They’re all signs that you may soon be facing a clogged drain in your home. And then one day you find your drain completely blocked. A situation that needs to be dealt with quickly or you’ll be faced with the wrath of a burst pipe or a nonfunctioning bathroom.

Naturally, as a homeowner, your first line of defense is to check your drains for visible obstructions like debris or hair. Which is generally followed by dragging out your trusty plunger. But what happens when you can’t flush your clog-inducing problems down the drain? You seek new DIY ways to get the job done!

Here are 5 ways to deal with the blockages before resorting to that expensive emergency plumber at-home this coming fall season:

1. DIY Drain Snake:

One of the best ways to unclog drains at home is by creating a DIY drain snake from a bent wire clothes hanger. Simple but surprisingly effective. To make this, you just take a regular wire coat hanger and straighten it out as best you can. Then, bend one end over to create a small hook. Push that past the drain cover and start fishing. You should be able to get all sorts of hair and nasty stuff out of the drain. As a rule of thumbs, you’ll always want to be pulling gunk out, not pushing it further down the drain. When you’ve got as much out as you can, run hot water down the drain for 1-3 minutes to finish clearing your drain.

2. A Wet & Dry Vacuum:

A wet & dry shop vacuum can become a power clog-sucking tool to quickly unclog drains at home. To use your shop vac on drains start by setting the unit to vacuum liquids. Then cover up the vent to prevent a back-filling mess. Then, create the tightest seal you can over the drain. An old plunger head can do this quickly. Lastly, with the vacuum turned on its highest setting, draw the clog up the pipe and into the vacuum bag. While this may not pull deeper clogs, this trick can help for more superficial clogs at home.

3. Boiling Water:

Just put the kettle on and boil up as much water as it will hold. Now pour it slowly down the drain allowing the hot water to work for several seconds between each pour of the kettle. This is usually the quickest way to unclog my drains at home. If there’s any water left, congratulate yourself with a cup of tea!

4. Cleaning the Pipe:

Sometimes cleaning your drains at home requires a little deep pipe cleaning! To do this start by placing an empty bucket underneath the U-shaped pipe, or the trap, beneath the sink. The bucket will collect the water that will spill. Using a plumber’s wrench, loosen the slip nuts at both ends of the pipe. When the trap is free, remove it and turn it upside down to empty the contents into the bucket. An old toothbrush is good for getting the tough gunk out. To finish up, just rinse the trap with water and then put it all back together. Easy peasy!

5. Stock-up on quality drain cleaners:

If after using the above steps you still your bath and sink drains are still clogged, opt to clear your drains with my go-to drain de-clogger, the at-home line of Roto-Rooter drain treatments. Products that are an easy, affordable, effective choice for all types of clogs at home.
