Surgical Cosmetic Procedures
Invasive (or surgical) cosmetic procedures include any surgical procedures that rearrange, add to or subtract from the body. These procedures are usually done in a hospital setting and require an overnight stay. The most common invasive cosmetic procedure is breast augmentation surgery. Breast implants are inserted under the chest muscles through a cut near the nipple, ensuring a fast recovery time. The worst-case scenario is failed plastic surgery which may require additional surgery but luckily you do have legal recourse address malpractice.
Dermal Fillers
An invasive procedure that adds volume and fullness to the skin. Fillers are injected into the face, smoothing wrinkles and fine lines while restoring a more youthful appearance. It’s common for dermal fillers such as Radiesse or Restylane to add volume to the lips for a plumper look.
Liposuction
This procedure is commonly done to reduce fat from under the chin or stomach. Liposuction suctions out fatty tissue, making facial contours more prominent and body shapes appear slimmer.
Gastric Banding
This procedure involves placing a band around the top portion of your stomach to reduce appetite. This surgery is most commonly used in conjunction with diet and exercise for extreme weight loss.
Dental Procedures
Dental procedures such as teeth whitening, dental implants, and gum reshaping can be considered invasive cosmetic surgery. Teeth whitening brightens the color of your teeth by removing stains from drinking coffee or tea or smoking cigarettes. Dental implants replace missing or lost teeth. Dental implants are threaded posts that are surgically inserted into the jawbone to act like anchor teeth.
Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures
Non-invasive [or non-surgical] cosmetic procedures are usually the most popular option. The only ‘cosmetic’ aspect of these options is that they generally do not produce immediate results. Non-invasive [or non-surgical] cosmetic procedures require a long-term commitment. These procedures include Botox injections, facial peels, and laser treatments.
Botox Injections
Botox injections are the most common non-invasive cosmetic procedure. Botox is a purified protein that is injected into muscles and smoothes wrinkles by temporarily weakening the muscles. The injections can be done in a doctor’s office and usually last for about 3 to 6 months.
Facial Peels
Facial peels use an acidic solution that removes dead skin cells, leaving behind smoother skin without any surgery. The peel can be done in a dermatologist’s office, and the results should last several months to a year.
Laser Treatments
Finally, laser treatments are also non-invasive cosmetic options. Laser treatments use carbon dioxide or erbium lasers to remove blemishes or wrinkles on the face by producing columns of minute thermal injury to the surface of the skin.
In Conclusion
Invasive and non-invasive cosmetic surgeries both have their benefits and drawbacks. In general, invasive procedures produce instant results, while non-invasive treatments take more time to achieve results. A consultation with your doctor will help you decide which treatment is right for you.
