Ways To Save At Petco!

notepad_page1

For this weeks Wednesday Ways To Save, I want to discuss some of the ways I shop at my favorite pet store, Petco! Here a few tips to save at Petco:

  1. Sign-up for the Petco Rewards Card, you will earn 5% cash back on every purchase, a $5 certificate when you spend $100, and receive special coupons. Sign up here!
  2. Online saving certificates are now able to be added right to your Petco Pals Card card, saving you time, money, and ink!
  3. Check out Petco’s online coupons here!
  4. Petco has an awesome price-match policy!
  5. According to their official online corporate price-match policy, they state that they will price match any local ad within a 20-mile radius of their store. Also, as of May 1st, they will also accept Amazon.com price-matching, via mobile devices! How awesome is that? As Amazon’s awesome Subscribe & Save Program often delves out awesome pet treat, food, and litter deals, this should come in very handy when price matching at your local Petco! Petco will also price match any competitors store, including co-op and feed stores, within a 100 mile radius.
  6. During the holidays be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Holiday calendars, priced around $4.00, which have coupon packs valued at over $50.00 each calendar, and a portion of the proceeds go to the Petco Animal Foundation. Please keep in mind, these calendars are also tax deductible, with saved receipts!
  7.  Be sure to check out the various managers specials around the store; stores can be combined with manufacturer and store coupons, newspaper, printed, and the like. The special will be marked with orange labels, and though many of the products are starting to expire, they can be bagged in Ziploc bags, and frozen up to a year.
  8. Also, coupons that produce overage will be applied to other items in your cart.

Also, keep your eyes peeled in-store for “oops savings,” savings on products mislabeled or needing to be sold 120 days before expiration; these savings, which can be paired with triple stacked manufacturer, competitors in-store coupons/price matching, and online and in-store coupons (with one of each, per item), for saving upwards of 80-90% off!

So consider the following at checkout:

  • Look for a product with “oops savings, ” or  price matching items from a store within a 100 mile radius.
  • Then stack a manufacturer internet or newspaper coupon.
  • Add to this any competitors coupons.
  • Then pile a Petco online, in-store, or calendar coupon to these savings!
  • Any coupon overage will be applied to other items in your current transaction.
  • If you have any $5.00 rewards certificates, they can be applied, too!
  • You are looking at a substantial, if not free item!

So, there are a few ways I save at Petco! Even if you are not a pet parent, consider finding deals at your local Petco to donate to local kennels, shelters, in-store Petco Foundation bins, service animal charities, Alzheimer Service Animal Rehab Clinics, or to animal fostering programs in your neck of the woods today! Also, if you are a Petco shopper, please leave me a comment below and let me know the ways you save as well!

One of my favorite ways to save, using rebates, is with SavingStar!

How do I use SavingStar?

  • You’ll need a smart phone to download their app.  Here’s what the screen looks like to users, and to select an offer, click the orange plus sign, and all offers will then be transferred and ready-to-go straight into to your account.
  • You will need to first select participating stores near you.
  • You can do this by clicking “stores.”
  • There are two types of stores: ones that are linked to your loyalty store card, and ones that require you to scan receipts for redemption.
  • When you load offers to your loyalty cards, they load to all the cards you have registered on the app right at checkout!
  • One of my  features of SavingStar is their “one or many” offers. These offers mean you can buy one of the items or all the required amount in multiple trips!

$0.10 DIY Plug-In Oil Cartridges Refill Tutorial!

300

Good evening, savvy savers! For this weeks Wednesdays Ways To Save, I want to share with you one of my favorite money-saving tips, how to refill your own plug-in air fresheners! This tip is very near and dear to my heart, as of late I have been able to purchase several new Febreze and Glade Customizables Units, and as much as I love free units, the new trend in “customizable, dual cartridges,” only means one thing to me, spending double the exorbitant amount I already delve out to keep my home smelling fresh!

Keep in mind, using this tip you will be able to fill each cartridge for only $0.10! This is a 75% savings over store-bought deals! This tip will work with any brand cartridge including Glade, Febreze, Yankee Candle, Bath and Body Works, as well as Glade brand diffusers! I purchase my oils from the Dollar Tree, as the larger bottles come in 20 ounce sizes, and as I only need 2 ounces each cartridge, I can refill each cartridge on a dime, for a dime!

Materials:

  • A plug-in of your choice, with an empty bulb.
  • An you like; I purchase my oils at the Dollar Tree!
  • 3 Tablespoons Water
  • A butter knife, or tweezers, to pry off the cap on the plug-in bulb
  • A tea bag
  • A paper towel
  • A small funnel or piece of wax paper
  • A medicine droppers; most pharmacies will give you free droppers, if needed.
  • The cap that came with the original cartridge

Directions:

  1. Remove the cap from the plug-in bulb then clean it out with warm water; a butter knife, or case knife works well.
  2. Wrap your cartridge with a tea bag, and place them in a paper towel, to absorb the older residual oil, for one hour.
  3. After an hour, discard your tea bag (which can be hung in a closet to freshener the air for up to one week; this will also remove moisture in closets as well).
  4. Take your cartridge and put about 20 drops of your favorite essential oil into the plug-in bulb, using a medicine dropper.
  5. Put 3 Tablespoons of water into the bulb, using a small funnel or wax paper strip,  with the oil, being careful not to let the mixture overflow out of the bulb.
  6. Put the wick back in the bulb. Be sure it snaps back into to place.
  7. Place the original cap back on the bulb, or carefully place it in a sandwich bag, for 1 hour to let the scent completely refill the internal wick.
  8. Plug your refilled cartridge in.
  9. Enjoy!

Here’s to saving in the New Year,

LeapFrogTv Review! #LeapTV

(This post contains information about a sponsored review product.)

LeapFrog_LeapTV_02._V345942348_

Hello again, savvy savers! Today finds us with another great product review, and this time the #LeapTv by #LeapFrog! Please note, this post brought to you by LeapFrog.

Recently, I had the opportunity to review LeapFrog’s new LeapTV gaming system. LeapFrog’s LeapTV Gaming System for Kids, its an all new gaming system designed to get small, precious minds, bodies, and spirits up and moving; although this system was it was created for kids ages 4 to 7, older kids would enjoy this system as well!

What makes LeapTV special?

There are 3 ways to play:

  1. Body motion: the camera catches them and they can see themselves on the TV!
  2. Classic control: it can tilt and shake for gaming fun.
  3. Pointer play: the control transforms into a pointer!

Other points of interest in the product:

  • Designed specifically for young children with age-appropriate games
  • Reinforces learning through movement
  • Games adapt to your child; the games automatically level as your child’s progress in proficiency

One aspect I really liked about #LeapTV, was that the initial set-up only took a couple of minutes, and the use the controls themselves, took moments to master, making this system one of the more functional kids gaming systems I have tried! Our system came loaded with Kart Racing, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Sofia the First, and some others. Please note, while out systems were pre-loaded for review purposes, #LeapFrog does affordably sell a large library of 125 plus game cartridges, all nationally approved by primary and secondary education associations for every education level; games are also available online for download.

What’s even nicer? The system has WiFi standard, so you can download games with our account without having to be at your laptop. Everyone in our home seemed to enjoy this game, from the family to my husband, even out fur-babies, our three overgrown fuzzy dog babies, looked interested in the motion being created in the participatory function of these games!

Why did I love LeapTV? As a tech-savvy, budget-conscious gal,  I cheer whenever I see educational elements, promoting both educational and physical fun for children in a healthy, engaging, wholesome capacity! While our family made the conscious decision to limit each of our expose to television the internet, when unwarranted, I like that when we have #LeapTV time, we are exercising, learning, and sharing in quality family time together!

Also worth noting, this system would make a great Christmas purchase, as this new gaming system would make an excellent addition to a Christmas wish list for kids 4 to 7.

What’s the top toy on your kiddos’ wish list this year?

Well done, LeapFrog!

Things I Freeze To Save Money!

Good morning, savvy savers! For this weeks Wednesday Ways To Save, I wanted to post about some of the items in my home, that I purchase in bulk and freeze, for savings down the road!

Here are few things here, that I freeze:

1) Cheese: Freeze blocks of cheese for up to a year; shredded cheese works well also, and you can prevent clumping by adding a dash of corn starch prior to freezing! Remember to let cheese thaw on counters before refrigerating, after freeing!

2) Pancakes: I make large batches bi-monthly and freeze servings in snack baggies, as needed; I save $30.00 annually by doing so for breakfast!

3) Bananas: I freeze banana, peeling on, and use for smoothies and bread; to use, microwave for 30 second, cut the peel tops, and squeeze out!

4) Rice:  I cook monthly batches of rice in my rice cooker, and then freeze for quick night sides.

5) Pies: I always bake pies in multiples, then freeze covered in wax paper, then bagged in large gallon ziploc; these last up to a year.

6) Corn: I freeze corn, husks and silk intact. in gallon ziploc, and then pull out to grill when needed; fresh corn in the winter is amazing this way, when paired with 4/$1.00 summer pricing! Be sure to compost scraps!

7) Pasta: Whenever I cook pasta, I usually cook the entire box and then freeze portions as needed for nightly meals.

8) Flour: I store my flour, double bagged, in my freezer to prevent infestations in summer.

9) Mashed Potatoes: I always freeze unused mashed potato portions, in smaller snack bags, up up to two months in my freezer!

10) Stock: I always boil and use leftover bones to make stock. Once stock is made, let completely cool, strain, and then place in ice trays to freeze; I like to add herbs to mine and seasoning as well. To store, pop the cubes in snack baggies for up to a year!

11) Uncrustables: I make my own uncrustables by using biscuit cutters to cut sandwiches, crimp the edges with a fork, and freeze in lunch bags up to a year; I save $42.00 annually by doing so.

12) Potato Chips, Crackers and Pretzels: I keep my snacks in smaller bags, frozen for up to a year, and thaw for one hour before serving.

13) Milk: I buy milk on sale and freeze for up to a season; also note you should shake up milk before drinking after freezing!

14) Eggs: When eggs drop in price to $0.99 a dozen at Walgreens, I stock-up, crack eggs, and put portions in snack bags to freeze for recipes down the road!

15) Lemon/Lime Juice and Zest: I often freeze lemon juice from my potted citrus trees, in ice trays, then transport cubes to snack baggies for up to a year; as well as freeze the zest for homemade stove-top potpourri in winter!

16) Hamburger: I often cook extra ground beef and turkey, then freeze the extra seasoned amounts in snack baggies for recipes, especially in the crockpot for later on!

I hope these money-saving tips help you, as much as they help my family!

Here’s to saving!
