Organizational Tips: Hanging Utility Closet Organizer!

IMG_0102

Good morning, savvy savers! For this weeks Organizational Tip, I wanted to show you how I organize my hallway utility closet. I use a very basic hanging shoe organizer! This organizer was purchased online, via Amazon.com, and cost under $10.00; I received it for free after redeeming survey points for an Amazon gift card. The organizer holds everything from cleaning clothes and wipes, to buffing pads, steamer clothes, air fresheners, batteries, mini flashlights, puppy pads, small accordion files which hold appliance instructions, and even space and interchangeable parts for my Shark Vacuum and cordless keyboards and car detailing kits! I love being able to use a basic, vertical surface to hold what use to be a laundry basket full of miscellaneous household and cleaning items in my utility closet!

Save $48.68 Annually By Making Homemade Orange All-Purpose Cleaner!

IMG_3259-610x884

Good morning, savvy savers! For Thursdays Cleaning Solutions post, I wanted to share with you my recipe for Homemade Orange Glass Cleaning Cleaner! With the outrageous cost of commercial glass cleaners, I created an organic, non-toxic, child and pet-safe all purpose cleaner which can be for under $5.00 for a years worth of cleaner! As the average cost of a bottle of store-bought orange cleaner is 3.89, and I use a bottle of spray a month, that’s a savings of $48.68 a year! Here’s how to make this!

Ingredients:

1 Clean, dried mason jar
The peels of 3 oranges
2 Cups Distilled, white vinegar
1 Empty Bottle
1 Funnel
1 Plastic Bowl
1 Sifter

To start:

1) Obtain a clean mason jar, and fill it with 16 ounces, 4 cups, of distilled white vinegar.

2) Place the peel of three oranges in the mason jar with the vinegar.

3) Secure the cap and ring on the mason jar.

4) Store the jar in a cool, dry place for 14 days.

5) On the 15th day, open the jar and strain the contents into a sifter, over a plastic bowl.

6) Return the solution to the mason jar with a funnel; label your jar as cleaning concentrate.

7) Open a spray bottle and add 1/4 cup of the solution, 2 ounces, to 5 cups water.

8) Seal the bottle and shake gently.

9) Use in conjunction with newspaper to clean most glass surfaces, including counters.

This is an awesome cleaner! I hope you will think so, too!

Enjoy the clean!

Plant Holder Produce Bins!

ORGANIZATIONword2collage

Good morning, savvy savers! For this weeks organizational post, I wanted to share with you one of the ways I organize my home! In my kitchen, on the wall on my pantry door, I have affixed two, and soon to be more, half-circle wire plant holders to the exterior pantry side board, and these baskets allow me to store produce, snack cakes, miscellaneous kitchen items, or whatever I have on hand, that has been purchased in bulk, that would need to be stores. As of right now, they are holding a myriad of snack cakes, which are being donated as prizes for my husbands school, as well as potatoes and apples, which are sprouting and tomorrow will be planted (upcoming tutorial will follow on my DIY potato towers); the potatoes would have been planted today, but we are currently under a severe weather watch in my area through tomorrow morning!

In any event, I found my baskets online, through Amazon.com here, and I just love how little space they take up, but how utilitarian they are in design!

IMG_87331

Good morning, savvy savers! For this weeks Cleaning Solutions Post, I wanted to share with you a quick, go-to cleaning secret in my home. The way I remove scuff marks off of light colored leather shoes, is with the inside of banana peels! Just rub the inside of the peels on scuff marks, let sit for two minutes, rub in, and then wipe away any residue! This tried-and-true method was handed down to me by my mother, and will surely come in handy as people are switching out their winter boots for Summer flats, espadrilles, and sandals!

Organizational Ideas: Bathroom Spice Rack Nail Polish Organizer!

ORGANIZATIONword2collage

Good morning, savvy savers! I hope many of you are off of work this fine Easter Monday, and for those that may not be, that something positive comes of both your mood and your day! With that said, I want to share the aspects of my master bathroom, that I consider positive! For this week, Organizational Ideas post, I want to share how I organize my nail polish collection, and my collection I mean the myriad of bottles that seem to come from the abyss to my bathroom!

IMG_0078

I organize my bottles on a hanging spice rack, which I was able to purchase for free, using earned Amazon.com gift cards, from survey sites! This rack is priced at under $10.00. This method keeps my polishes, nail art nail polish, and lacquers within reach, not sitting in drawers, and easily accessible to myself during weekly spa nights! I love to look at my rack when I go into the bathroom, for as a visual person, colors excite me! Here’s to organizing!

DIY Off! Botanicals Spray!

Thrifty-Thursday

Good afternoon, savvy savers! For this weeks Thrifty Thursday post, I want to bring you my recipe for Homemade Off! Botanicals Insect Repellent! Why share this blend so early in the season? This past weekend, I saw the first skeeter of the year! This hack was created last summer, as we in Mississippi had a very mild winter, and the droves of bugs did not have a chance to die off, and so I needed a blend that was both economical, as well as organic and pet, child, and elderly safe!

I am able to make this repellent for $0.15 for 3 cups of repellent, which is a 99% savings over the 1 ounce Off! Botanicals, which costs $6.98 here locally! I mix up a large bathc at a time, and using spray bottles from the Dollar Tree, I keep batches on my patio, garden area, mood room, garage, and one in the car for trips! This blend is a lifesaver for my family!

A word to the wise, this blend does have a slight odor, due to the vinegar, but dissipated within 10-15 seconds of spraying. I have used this blend on everything from myself, family, pets, and even garden plants and water fountains!

Here’s how I make it:

Ingredients:

1 cup boiled water
1 cup apple cider vinegar
2 table spoons vegetable glycerin
1/2 cup witch hazel
1 green tea bag
12 drops citonella essential oil
12 drops lemon essential oil
dried rosemary

Here’s how to make it:

1) Boil 1 cup water, and when water turns to a boil, turn off your stove. Add your green tea bag and dried rosemary, and steep for 5 minutes.

2) Remove your tea bag, and strain your tea of rosemary over a sive, then let your tea cool for 20 minutes.

3) Add your vinegar, glycerin, and essential oils.

4) Then add this blend to your spray bottle, then carefully add your witch hazel to your bottle.

5) Carefully swish your blend together, but do not shake your bottle.

6) Let the blend meld for 1 hour.

7) Shake bottle-up at this point.

8) Enjoy!
