Organizational Ideas: Makeup Storage Containers!

Hello again, savvy savers! For this weeks Organizational Ideas post, I wanted to share a quick post with you all as to how I organize and store my personal makeup and cosmetic stash!

Did you know that the average makeup and cosmetic item only has a one year shelf life, once used or utilized? And that the number one reason for skin breakouts was contaminated cosmetic products or tools? These are several reasons why I generally like to keep my makeup and cosmetic items in neat, tip-top shape? How do I do this, by using inexpensive office supply organizational desk boxes in my bathroom to store my cosmetic and hygiene items!

I use Sterlite Office Organizer boxes, sitting on two of three shelves on my behind-the-toilet organizer in my hall bathroom. Each box retails for less than $4.00 each at Walmart, and each box holds over a basket of cosmetics! These boxes despite their small size currently hold over four gallons of makeup, razors, facial products, hair items, and more! I love that each drawer is sub-divided, and as the boxes feature clear front drawers, I can easily spot what is inside each compartment without having to label the boxes!

My favorite drawer, my lip gloss drawer, though used most often, is just as accessible as every other compartmentalized section on this shelving unit! I find this method cuts down on clutter, prevents sink drawers from being bombarded with products never to see the light of day, and for me, the more I see products, samples, or items the more likely I will use them before expiration, or seasonally! So, for me this is my go-to makeup storage and organizational system!

I hope my drawers inspire you to sort through and organize your own makeup stash at home!

DIY Summer Fly Killer Bags!

Good morning, savvy savers! If you are anything like me, you are always looking for more natural ways to clean and remedy situations in your home, and pest removal is no exception! For this weeks House Wife Solutions, I wanted to share with you how I have found to naturally rid my home of flies, and that is with Homemade Fly Killer Bags!

This project could not be any simpler to create! Any room, or area that is prone to flies, just fill a one gallon Ziploc baggie 3/4 way full of water and add four pennies. How does this work you may ask? Great question! Pulling out my former knowledge in the areas of Chemistry, I can state that the myriad of water molecules each act as a natural prism, and as flies have multiple eyes, the bags create a blinding, dizzying, and neurological need for the flies to leave the presence of the bags, generally for the good. I place the bags in groups of three on my patio and a group of three, hung from clothespins, in my kitchen in the Summer and early Autumn season each year!

Housewife Hacks: Remove Shoe Scuffs With Banana Peels!

Clean-Scuff-Marks

Good evening, savvy savers! For this weeks Housewifes Hack Series Post, I wanted to share with you a quick, go-to cleaning secret in my home. The way I remove scuff marks off of light colored leather shoes, is with the inside of banana peels! Just rub the inside of the peels on scuff marks, let sit for two minutes, rub in, and then wipe away any residue! This tried-and-true method was handed down to me by my mother, and will surely come in handy as people are switching out their winter boots for Summer flats, espadrilles, and sandals!

Please note, peels can still be composted after using them to remove scuffs, as well. Here’s to natural cleaning methods!

Tutorial Tuesday: How To Organize Your Electronic Supply Drawer!

Tutorial Tuesday

Hello again, savvy savers! Today finds us with another great tutorial! For this weeks Tutorial Tuesday, I want to show you the quickest and easiest way I have found to organize on the massive amounts of electronic accessories, cords, do-dads, and the like in my home.  If your stash is anything like mine, it is the archeological record of the past half decade of trends, fads, and all things techy, and without a proper means to store them, many simply end up in a drawer! Well no longer! I tackled my drawer last night, and here’s how:

IMG_04061

First, I sought to disassemble this pile into groups; things that can be used in one area, things that can be donated via Freecycle to another pile, and things that can be recycled (things without lithium batteries) to another area. Also consider, used phones can be donated to drop boxes at local military bases for troops, or re-sold at boxes and stations in malls across the country.

Next, I amassed my tools. I used plastic bins on hand from the Dollar Tree and cardboard tubes from toilet paper and paper towels, removed of paper remnants and trimmed to the size of the boxes; trimming can be recycled. I then take each set of cards, headphones, and cables, and place them into their own tube slot.  Rubber keyboards can also be rolled into tubes. Remotes can be placed in separate tubes as well. There will be a small area of room at the end of each bin which can be used for cd-rom storage as well. I also used a separate bin to store bulky headphones; the ends of headphones can be secured with breadties.

And there you have it! Voila, organized electronic storage that now takes up less than 1/3 the amount of room as before! Pretty nifty in my book! If you have an electronics organization idea you would like to share, I would love to hear about it below in the comment section of this post!

Here’s to a de-cluttered home!

Hanging Pet Cage Organizer!

ORGANIZATIONword2collage

Hello again, savvy savers! Today finds us with another awesome organizational idea, and this time my Hanging Pet Cage Organizer!

I came up with the idea to hang an plastic magazine organizer on the side of my husband’s pet’s cage, to help with storage for hammocks, treat sticks, treat bags, and small toys. The organizer is the same color as the cage, does not distract the family from viewing the pet in the den, and makes getting to much needed supplies, quick and easy!

To attach the unit, I simply screwed the organizer onto the same hook that holds Juju’s wheel to her cage; doing so did not cause the cage wheel to stop spinning as a result, as most pet wheels have internal spinning agents and not external ones. The magazine rack cost $1.00 at Walmart, and is an awesome way to keep Juju happy, healthy, and well organized!

Here’s to organization!

Organizational Ideas: Rolling Workstation!

ORGANIZATIONword2collage

Hello again, savvy savers! For this weeks Organizational Ideas post, I want to share with you one of the ways I have found to organize the little things in my home office and workshop, my rolling workstation cart.

IMG_45681

I purchased my unit from Amazon.com, and I can honestly attest that I use my workstation daily! I am able to store many smaller, but needed objects in my home office by category, all within easy reach during the workday; I use the drawers to separate stationery and letterhead, review samples, coupons, business notices, promotional offers for my blog, sweepstakes and giveaway items, and so much more! I also have a second cart which is used solely for my ETSY shop supplies and Scentsy items, as I am also a Scentsy Consultant, and run an online ETSY shop! Another bonus? I can use it to work from my laptop or iPad, making switching from work to my other online ventures quick and easy! I also love that the cart is roomy, durable, and easy to guide!

By in large, I would say that the reason I love this cart the most, is that is is mobile! In warmer, fair weather seasons, I roll my cart and laptop to my patio, and can wirelessly work, as well as if I want to take my cart from my home office to say my den, living room, or even downstairs to my workshop, I can easily do so! Keep in mind, the carts are not cheap, but as my grandmother always said, you get what you pay for! The acrts run around $100.00, and you may be able to find smaller units at your local craft, warehouse, or office supply stores (with coupons), but if you prefer to shop online, as I do, consider investing in this cart for yourself; another savvy tp would be to save Swagbucks or Amazon gift cards rendered from Crowdtap or online survey sites as well, to apply towards the purchase! Also note, this cart can be deducted from Federal Taxes, if used as a home office, school, or business-related expense, so be sure to save and file away your receipts!

So, that’s just another way I personally have found to help keep my home as organized as possible!

Here’s to organizing!

Cleaning Ideas: Remove Rust with Cream of Tartar!

Cream-of-Tartar

Here is another great way to save on cleaning your whole home! When I find some of my stainless steel appliances, such as my over, toaster, coffee maker, and refrigerator, all of which are stainless steel, have small spots of rust, gunk, spots, or dirt, I use a simple paste of cream of tartar and water, along with a toothbrush, to clean these items to a shine! This trick works well, is economical, and a real time-saver! Enjoy the sparkle your appliances, and pots and pans for that matter, will have after using this trick!  Also note, from time to time my local Dollar Tree carries this spice rack staple, and when they do be sure to stock-up with this purpose in mind!
