Ingredients
  1. 3/4 Cup Coarse Sea Salt
  2. 1/2 Cup Epson Salts
  3. 1/4 Cup Baking Soda
  4. 1/2 Teaspoon Sweet Almond Oil
  5. 12 Drops Essential Lavender Oil
  6. 10 Drops Food Coloring (optional)
  7. Dried Lavender (optional)
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, combine: coarse sea salt; Epsom salts, and baking soda; blend well.
  2. Transfer dry mixture to clean glass jar or lidded container.
  3. Add your essential oil and almond oil, stirring gently to incorporate.
  4. Please note, I personally do not feel the need to color my bath salts, should you chose to do so, add 10 drops of a coordinating food color per batch.
  5. Also, when in season, I will add lavender removed from the stem, grown organically from my tiered herb garden to my batches; I pour a four of my mixture into a jar at a time, then add the lavender, and continue until the jar is filled.
  6. If making this product for others, be sure to add a label, or a hang tag to the jar, indicating what the product is, as well as usage and storage suggestions, especially for those with small children and pets.
Notes
  1. This DIY is super simple, smells amazing, and is nourishing to your skin!
  2. Gift Giving Idea: Considering that a jar of this super luxurious, organic salt blend, paired with my Homemade Brown Sugar Citrus Body Scrub, and Homemade Warm Honey Eucalyptus Body Butter, placed in a basket, makes for a trip of affordable, organic DIY beauty product gift for under $6.00, per person!

Beauty On A Budget: Under Eye Bag Fix!

teabag

Hello again, savvy savers! For this weeks Beauty on a Budget Post, I wanted to share with you my favorite fix for under eye puffiness, and that is with used tea bags! To help ease that under eye puffiness, simply brew two bags of tea, then wring them out slightly, and allow the bags to cool for a few seconds.  Then just  apply one teabag to each eye, pressing slightly.  Leave the tea bags on for 15-20 minutes – you should notice brighter eyes immediately afterwards! This hack works because of the tannic acid within the tea helps reduce external puffiness! Used tea bags can then be placed in the compost bin for easy cleanup!

Beauty On A Budget: Homemade Nail Polish Remover!

beauty-on-a-budget1

Calling all my frugal fashionistas! For this weeks Beauty On A Budget Series I want to discuss one of my favorite ways to save money on cosmetics, and that with my homemade Nail Polish Remover!

What so cool about this remover? It’s made of just one tablespoon lemon juice, 1/4 cup white vinegar, and a 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch! That’s it! This blend is natural, easy on hands, is acetone-free, and works just as well as any commercial brand. I can make a 20 ounce bottle, a years worth of remover for $0.50! I polish my nails weekly, and find that one bottles lasts nearly a year, and compared to the $12.00 I spent annually in previous years, this is a beauty secret I will be continuing! As this product is acetone-free, there is no peeling as well. I keep my remover in the fridge in the warmer months to prevent the starch from separating, and its good to go on all fronts! Be sure to try this method for removing nail polish, and see how awesome saving money can be! Enjoy!

Homemade Brown Sugar Citrus Body Scrub!

brown-sugar-body-scrub

Homemade Brown Sugar Citrus Body Scrub. A simple to make scrub full of essential oils and DIY goodness from items I purchase online from Amazon.com, can be purchased at your local Dollar Tree, or you may have on hand as is! I love this blend, as I keep a jar in my shower, as well as a jar by my mudroom sink, to scrub off garden debris! The scrub is both exfoliating, as well as moisturizing to skin. I apply this scrub weekly in the fall and winter, and bi-weekly in the summer.

I can make this scrub for $0.48 for 16 ounces.

Here’s how I make it:

Ingredients:

1/2 cup coarse brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar in the raw
1/2 cup kosher salt
2 tablespoons coconut oil
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons aloe vera gel
1 teaspoon dried orange zest
10 drops essential lemon oil
2 drops eucalyptus oil

To make the scrub: mix all ingredients together, and store in a glass jar or container at room temperature. Enjoy!

DIY Tea Tree Oil Shampoo!

Beauty On A Budget-

Good afternoon, savvy savers! For this weeks Beauty on a Budget, I wanted to share with you my recipe for Homemade Shampoo! After years of purchasing Paul Mitchell’s Tea Tree Oil Shampoo, I started making my own, and haven’t turned back since! My blend combines coconut milk and tea tree oil, and works well for all types of hair, including color treated hair! I can make an entire bottle of shampoo, a 8 ounce bottle for only $0.20!

I put my shampoo, and homemade conditioner (to be seen in an upcoming tutorial) back in the original bottles I previously used, washed out of course, and my family has yet to ever notice the difference!

Also worth noting, this blend is also excellent for natural curl patterns, like my own!

Here’s how to make this:

Ingredients:

  • 1/8 cup coconut milk
  • 2/3 cup baking soda
  • 1/2  teaspoon of Vitamin E oil
  • 20 drops of tea tree oil
  • 1/2 tsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup filtered water

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in an jar.
  2. Shake well to mix.
  3. This blend will last in-shower for up to a month.
  4. Shake before each use.
  5. Use about a teaspoon every time you shampoo.
  6. Enjoy!

Here’s to your inner beauty,
