5 Ways to Nurture a Love for Learning in Your Child

In this world, very few things are more rewarding than seeing your child develop a genuine love of learning. Their natural curiosity transforms into a lifelong passion for gaining knowledge, understanding the world around them, and reaching their full potential. While some children take more naturally to learning than others, there are many ways you can encourage this love of learning from an early age, regardless of your child’s disposition. Read on for tips on how to nurture a love of learning that will benefit your child throughout their life.

1. Provide an Encouraging Environment

Whether you’re a parent or a foster carer with a fostering agency like Active Care Solutions eager to see your child thrive, it all starts with providing a nurturing environment. Make sure your home is rich with age-appropriate books, toys, learning materials and activities to spark their interest. Display their artwork and schoolwork proudly. Ask open-ended questions that allow them to think critically. Most importantly, offer plenty of encouragement and positive reinforcement when they show curiosity or accomplish a new skill or task.

2. Make Learning Fun with Games and Activities

Young minds learn best through play and fun activities. Take everyday tasks and make them into learning games. Count stairs as you walk up them or sing songs that teach numbers and letters during bath time. On car rides, ask them to spot objects of certain colours or shapes. Use household chores as opportunities for lessons, like baking, to teach math skills.  Making learning hands-on and enjoyable will make your child eager to discover more.

3. Expose Them to New Experiences

Exposing your child to new places, people and activities pique their curiosity about the world around them. Bring them to museums, libraries, concerts and sporting events in your community. Introduce them to people from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and professions to broaden their horizons. Try new recipes from diverse cuisines or listen to music genres outside of your norm. The more you open their eyes to new experiences, the more enthusiastic they will be about exploring and learning.

4. Set a Good Example as a Lifelong Learner

Children are naturally great mimics and will follow the examples set by the adults in their lives. Demonstrate that learning never stops, no matter your age. Let them see you reading books, newspapers and magazines on a regular basis. Discuss interesting articles or documentaries you’ve come across. Share what you learned from trying a new hobby or taking a class. When you model being an inquisitive, eager learner yourself, you will inspire the same attitude and love of discovery in your child.

5. Make Screen Time Educational

Rather than trying to avoid screen time completely, use technology to promote learning. Choose educational shows, apps, videos and games. Watch documentaries as a family and discuss them afterwards. Download apps that teach reading, maths, science and more through interactive games. Screens shouldn’t completely replace human-guided learning, but if used judiciously, they can be powerful educational tools to spark a love of learning.

Nurturing a genuine enjoyment of learning in your child is a gift that will keep giving throughout their lifetime. While their natural temperament plays a role, there are many ways you can nurture their curiosity and love of discovery from a young age, including those listed above. With the right approach, you can instil a passion for learning that will benefit them far beyond just school.

The Best Note-Taking Apps for Diligent Students

Taking good notes is an essential skill for academic success. With so many classes, readings, lectures and studying to do, having an effective note-taking system makes all the difference. For today’s tech-savvy students, note-taking apps are an excellent option to stay organized. Here are some of the top note-taking apps for diligent students.

Simple, Versatile Note Apps

For basic note-taking needs, apps like Google Keep, Evernote, and OneNote give you simple yet powerful options.

Google Keep allows you to make color-coded notes with lists, photos, audio recordings and reminders. Everything syncs across your devices automatically. The app is free and intuitive to use.

Evernote also lets you take notes in a variety of formats, attach files, organize notes into notebooks, and access your notes from any device. The free version provides adequate storage and functionality for most students.

OneNote by Microsoft offers robust features like inserting screenshots, equations, and drawings into your notes. It integrates well with other Microsoft Office products. The free version works well for individual use.

Specialized Note-Taking Apps

Some note apps cater to specific needs like handwritten notes, audio recording, and structured notes.

Notability is great for handwritten notes. You can write using the Apple Pencil stylus, while recording lectures and making annotations. Notes export easily to other apps. There is a fee to use Notability but many students find it worth it.

For audio-focused notetaking, Sonocent is an excellent tool. It lets you record lectures and take notes that sync with the audio recordings. Playback is easy and you can edit your notes later while listening. There are affordable subscription options for students.

Apps like Obsidian and Roam Research prioritize building structured, interlinked notes. These “second brain” apps help you draw connections between concepts for deeper learning. Obsidian is free, while Roam costs a monthly fee.

Collaborative Notetaking

Notetaking can become more effective and engaging when it’s collaborative. Apps like Slite and Milanote make it easy.

Slite lets you take visual notes on a shared workspace. Team members can add content, make comments, and upvote useful notes. Pricing is per user per month.

Milanote is a virtual whiteboard for collaborative notes and mind-mapping. The creative flexibility makes it great for group brainstorming and visual notes. Subscription plans are affordable for students.

Taking Notes the Old-Fashioned Way: Pen and Paper

If you want some tips on how to take notes in college, making notes with a pen and paper has cognitive benefits that digital notes can lack. Writing notes by hand requires focus and engages more of your brain. This process helps strengthen memory and retention. Handwriting notes also allows more creativity and flexibility in drawing diagrams, mind maps, and colorful highlights. Pen and paper give you control over organizing notes without the distraction of apps and tech. Plus, no devices are needed, just your trusty pen and notebook.

For many diligent students, old-fashioned notetaking works best for comprehension and study. Though digital methods have advantages too, the cognitive edge of pen and paper makes it still essential in every student’s toolkit.

The key to excellent notetaking is finding an app that suits your specific needs and studying style. With the wide range of features and technologies now available, students can stay better organized and take their learning to the next level with great note-taking apps.

“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” Movie Review & Giveaway

Many thanks to Kingdom Faith Marketing Services for providing a sample of the product for this review. My opinions are 100% my own.

A decade ago, Christian film director and producer, Dallas Jenkins, gained notoriety for his work in the faith-based series, “The Chosen.” Seeking to blaze a path from television to film, Jenkins’ latest film, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” a Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company’s film adaption of the beloved holiday literary classic, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” by Barbara Robinson, is the new must-watch film adaptation this holiday season.

Telling the story of the Herdmans, a group of misfit youngsters, who send their small community into a tizzy when they land coveted roles in a beloved annual community-sponsored Christmas pageant. The film, based on a popular book of the same name, ingeniously weaves an inspiring, holiday-esque tale with gospel-centric missives, including family-friendly comedy, festive scenery, and delightful messaging in a must-see holiday tale.

Many Americans have fallen in love with this classic holiday tale, myself included, loving the Herdman’s unique style of holiday charm. From their antics to artistic narratives, these delightful group of youngsters will warm your hearts with their seasonal-minded personal change. That despite a few stolen moments for goodies and hijinks, was discovered along the way. The film’s plot turns when Imogene Herdman, the family’s eldest child, auditions for the church’s Christmas pageant, coveting the role of Mary of Nazareth, and the adoration it brings. Her remaining siblings, five precocious tykes, audition for roles, too. Who, also, not surprisingly, win their respective roles, after threatening barborousness against anyone seeking their respective roles.

The Herdmans’ particular brand of lawlessness places the pageant’s new director, Mrs. Grace, in a proverbial bind. As snooty, local townspeople want her to cannonade the entire Herman clan from the annual production. Yet, a softhearted and amiable, Mrs. Grace, repudiates their demands, believing the pageant’s message will change hearts and minds throughout the parish.

Leaving parishioners, and audiences, to wonder if the Herdmans will ruin the Christmas pageant, perhaps not. Spoiler alert: The Herdmans don’t ruin the pageant. Instead, they, the parish, and the community at large are themselves, transformed by the youngsters’ stirring performance. Along with stirring performances by Lauren Graham (“Gilmore Girls”) as the narrator, Judy Greer (“Ant-Man”) as Grace, Elizabeth Tabish (“The Chosen”) as one of the uppity townspeople, and with Kirk B.R. Woller (“The Chosen”) as the parson, this is a movie overflowing with inspiring messaging, mischievous action comedy, and warm, holiday cheer.

Rated PG for thematic material, a brief portrayal of underage smoking, and unassuming lingo, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” is a film you’ll want to take your friends and family to see in theatres on November 8, 2024. “The Carpenter” Movie Review & Giveaway

Many thanks to Three Coin Productions for providing a sample of the product for this review. My opinions are 100% my own.

The Fall. A time of compelling sights, scenes, and sounds, especially at the movies, and a great time to see “The Carpenter,” an action film exploring Nazareth in 29 A.D. Along with music and fight sequencing, sharing the life of a fighter, through the modern depiction of an ancient story tale, sharing modern morality tales of the life and times of a champion fighter, befriended by a benevolent carpenter from Nazareth, “The Carpenter,” set during a biblical timescape showcasing the journey of becoming a carpenter’s apprentice to Jesus Christ. Through a skillset of carpentry, a Viking‘s redemptive is created and shared.

With a compelling landscape shot in Ancient Israel during the First Century, “The Carpenter” shares the story of Oren, the Viking carpenter, and prodigy boxer, whose life changes after he begins a carpentry apprenticeship under Jesus of Nazareth, later rising to the upper eshcilans of the boxing community within the ancient world. Later, rising in the local commercial and sporting ranks, to become an apprentice to a local carpenter, whose mentorship changes his life, becoming a pillar of his greater community.

The Carpenter” is an inspiring movie perfect for the fall season ahead. Combining sports, ethical debate, and personal redemption, this is a tale combining biblical worldview and athleticism, along with lessons of humanity and the necessity of caring for society’s least, the poor and the needy, this movie guides viewers towards a simple idea- becoming a light in a dangerous world. Leading viewers to view the seasonal messaging of loving our neighbors, trusting God, redemption, and the importance of family in simple, effective means.

The Carpenter” is a touching sports drama that shares the love of fighting for what truly matters most. Despite the film’s blatant historical inaccuracies and time-spanning liberties, Christ did not teach a boxing school, train apprentices, live adjacent to a boxing school, or live out the entirety of this script, this is an entertaining movie combining a great sports story with the life of Jesus Christ. Despite this, the story is well scripted, teaching important moral, and seasonal messages.

Be sure to buy tickets to see “The Carpenter” in theaters starting November 1st, here. Plus, readers of Theladyprefers2save.com can also enter to win a $10.00 Amazon.com gift card this season, too. To enter, please leave a comment on this post letting me know why you’d most want to see this film in theatres this season starting November 1, 2024. Please note, that multiple entries from single entrants will be disqualified. This giveaway ends on November 8, 2024, at 11:59 PM CST. Gift cards will be sent electronically from Momentum Influencers. Good luck!

Makeup Tips That Will Save You Money This Fall

When it comes to makeup, there is a common misconception that we have to spend a whole BUCKET load of cash to look fabulous. However, this is not the case, and in fact, there are many ways to look amazing fall season without splashing the cash. Today we are going to take a look at how you can save some money, look great, and save your hard-earned dollars on  Zoom-ready makeup this coming season.

Focus on skincare

The skin is the largest organ in the body, and it is susceptible to a lot of problems. If you want to look amazing all year long, you need to look after the skin first. The better your skin looks, the less coverage you will need to apply, and therefore the less money you will spend on products.  Making organic skincare products, like Amanda Jo Organic Bunny products, is the necessary foundation for achieving your best, natural makeup looks this season at home.

Use concealer as an eyeshadow primer

Most of the big beauty influencers out there tend to use products that in real life are unnecessary. The biggest culprit for this is the eyeshadow primer. This product is one that admittedly can be useful for looks involving a lot of shadows, however, concealer will have the same effect and will allow eyeshadow to stick to your lid. So the next time you want to create a smoky eye, add some extra concealer to your lids!

Dab, don’t swipe

If you are looking to save money on your everyday beauty routine, a useful trick is to dab the foundation onto the skin instead of swiping. Whether you use a brush or a beauty blender, when you swipe foundation into the skin you’ll lose a lot of the product along the way, therefore needing to use more. Dabbing foundation into the skin takes a bit more time, but it allows you to use fewer products and gain flawless coverage.

Use highlighter as eyeshadow

Eyeshadow can be an expensive makeup product, and if you buy a whole palette only to use 2-3 colors in your routine, it is a huge waste of money. This is why instead of forking out on expensive eyeshadow palettes, you can instead use highlighter and contour to create a natural look. Use contour in the crease to create a natural shadow, and then use a highlighter on the lid for a pop of brightness.

Mix foundation and moisturizer

The foundation is a difficult product to source, and if you always have problems finding the best shade for you, it is no surprise that you want to keep your foundation for as long as you can. One great way to gain light coverage and look after the skin is to mix your foundation with some moisturizer before applying. The moisturizer will allow for easy spread of product and as a result, it will allow you to use less product overall.

Use clever dupes

W7 is a great example of a beauty brand that dupes expensive makeup. Their eyeshadow palettes are the perfect copy of Urban Decay palettes for a fraction of the price. As well as this, there are many sites online that sell cheaper beauty products such as this brush or Primark makeup. You can find a surprising selection of no-name products that work just as well as the known brands.

5 Must-Try Fall-Inspired Recipes

Apples are by far one of my favorite fruits, which is probably why I love the fall so much. Growing up in Virginia, there was nothing I loved more than picking McIntosh apples with my family. With the cooking spree that generally followed at home a close second. Between our homemade applesauce, apple crisp, apple pie, apple fritters, tarts, and Waldorf salads. Needless to say, things could get pretty fruity at home during the apple season.

While I have an extreme fondness for apples there is also a great legacy of apple-loving in America. Apples have been recorded as culinary staples in colonial kitchens stemming back to the early 1600s, making them a true staple of American culture.

In 1603, Jamestown settlers grew apples for one sole purpose- making cider. The apples they produced then were small, tart varieties more akin to crab apples, unlike the handy fruit snacks we enjoy today.

Even though apples are not the most purchased fruit in the United States. They come in at a close second behind bananas. But whether it’s through fresh apples or apple products, the average American consumes roughly 19 pounds per year. Making them the perfect fat-free, low-cal, sodium-free, cholesterol-free 80-calorie snack.

As the adage goes, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Eating an apple before bed can help cleanse and whiten your teeth, and eating the skin of apples can provide you with age-fighting anti-oxidants, including Quercetin, apples are nutrient-dense in fiber and contain high levels of boron, which increases mental alertness. Now for a new more modern American apple facts!

1) Washington State produces the most apples each year in the United States. 70% of all apples sold in the U.S. come from the Evergreen State. This is followed by production in New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, California, Virginia, North Carolina, Oregon, Ohio, and Idaho.

2) The United States currently produces close to 200 unique varieties of apples but the only native apple in North America is the Crabapple. Crabapple trees once called common apples, became a staple of American markets as early as Boston in 1625. It is believed that apple seeds brought over from Europe began to change consumer markets and over time crabapples became out of step with American tastes. That was until the reemergence of the 20th-century cider renaissance, where now over 30 varieties of crabapples can be commonly found in store-bought microbrews.

3) It takes an apple tree five years to produce its first fruit. Apple trees are slow, but steady producers. Once the tree begins to grow, each apple tree can become quite voluminous. The average tree can fill 20 fruit boxes, with the average box weighing in around 42 pounds!

4) It takes around 40 apples to produce 1 gallon of cider. Making that each glass of cider you drink is the equivalent of 4 apples.

5) The top 10 varieties sold in the United States are Gala, Red Delicious, Fuji, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, McIntosh, Pink Lady, Braeburn, and Jazz. The most used apple for baking is the Red Delicious, due to its sweet, rich flavor. The top cider-producing apples are McIntosh, Rome, and Empire.

7 Health Benefits to drinking wine this fall

7 Health Benefits to drinking wine this fall

Wine. We drink it with dinner, after a long day, and for yearly celebrations. Especially in fall, a season chock-full of fun, festive get-togethers. it always finds its way to the table. Wine is often the centerpiece of tradition and happiness this time of year.

But for many of us, it goes further as it helps relax our minds and brings smiles to faces. Beyond the euphoria and happiness, drinking a controlled, moderate amount (the standard 5-ounce pour daily) of wine can be good for your physical health. But how exactly does it contribute to your health? With this in mind, here are seven reasons you should be drinking wine at home this fall:

7 Health Benefits to drinking wine this fall

Antioxidants

One of the best ways to ward off those pesky free radicals that cause health issues, such as cancer, is to drink wine. Wine is naturally full of antioxidants that attack free radicals. A recent study by the University of Barcelona scientists found that the phenols in white wine had equal, if not higher, antioxidants than those in red wine. Drinking white wines such as sauvignon blanc, Moscato, Pinot Grigio, gewürztraminer, and Riesling can help keep you healthier all season long!

Immune Health

Are you looking to boost your immune system this fall? Drinking a glass of wine daily can give your immune system a much-needed boost. A 5-ounce serving of win daily can also help to ward off infections and keep your immune system in check. Especially important during fall allergy and sinus season. But be cautious. Excessive consumption can lead to negative effects of drinking wine for an immunity boost.

Increases Bone Density

As we age, our bones naturally get more brittle. Especially for mothers. This is why you could increase your calcium intake by drinking a relaxing glass of wine. Red wine has high levels of silicon, which is great for your bone mineral density. Which increases bone density and reduces the chance of developing osteoporosis.

Reduces the risk of Stroke

Moderate consumption of wine can help reduce your chance of stroke by preventing blood clotting. Wine acts as a natural blood thinner, breaking up any blood clots that could lead to a stroke. This lower risk of blood clotting is more beneficial to females than males.

Red wine, in particular, contains phenols, that act as blood thinners, similar to natural willow aspirin. Particularly the chemical resveratrol, found in red grape skins, protects against stroke when the grapes are turned into wine. But do keep in mind, that excessive drinking can have the opposite effect, resulting in a higher risk of heart attacks. So like with all good things in life, moderation is key.

Reduced the risk of Heart Disease

In the battle against heart disease, especially for women, taking all the necessary precautions to help prevent heart disease is a must! And wine can help. The tannins found in red wine contain procyanidins, phenols that neutralize free radicals, agents known to be effective in preventing cardiovascular disease. The lesson of the day is that if you want a healthy heart, bite the bullet and drink a glass of wine.

For those with high cholesterol,  those same procyanidins found in red wine that promote a healthy heart also promote lower cholesterol. Particularly decreasing LDL, or unhealthy cholesterol levels while increasing HDL or healthy and good cholesterol. So if you’re suffering from high blood pressure, it’s best to pour a glass to help maintain healthy HDL levels at home!

Fight off that flu

Did you know that drinking a glass of wine daily can give your immune system a flu-fighting boost? Moderate alcohol consumption can help naturally keep your immune system in check. Especially important during the fall season when temperatures cool and we are around more friends, family, and classmates who may be carrying flu and cold pathogens.

Reduces the risk of Type 2 Diabetes

If you have a family history of Type-2 Diabetes, wine may help. Resveratrol has been proven to improve sensibility to insulin. With insulin resistance contributing to type 2 diabetes risk, a nice glass of wine makes the list of things you can enjoy.

A Chief Operations Officer currently working in the international marketing industry. Including working with health and tech professionals to educate consumers on the health benefits that can be obtained through organic wine consumption.

Friends, those are just some of the health benefits that can be afforded by moderate, responsible wine consumption this season. Be sure to do yourself a favor, and pour a glass of wine and toast to your health. Perhaps with a fun, frugal fall food dish. Now I have to ask, do you drink wine at home for your health?
