Monday Meal Plan (4/17-4/23/17)

Hello again, everyone! This week is starting off to a sunny start here in Dixie. This past weekend has been very eventful for us as a family. From minor plumbing issues to having to purchase yet another dishwasher, this past weekend was anything but boring. Thankfully, with the start of each new week’s, there’s the pleasant certainty of a well planned, money-saving meal plan. A plan I am ever so grateful to have!

This week’s menu again reflects our need to eat down our food stockpile. As we are having to consume everything we have on-hand first, though we did purchase several items food and home consumables, each of which garnered us back online app rebates, which will give us groceries and products that can help us in the weeks to come for our family of three as part of a minimalist meal plan.

Here’s a recap for those new to minimalist meal planning. There are the five categories I took into consideration when setting up this month’s minimalist meal plan:

Consistency: The goal of minimalist meal planning is to consistently prepare and present my family with home cooked, healthy meals each day this month.

Cost: Posted meal plans are based on seasonal sales cycles with attention paid to both frugality and minimalist efficiency. This week’s menu reflects our budget of $160.00 monthly for a family of three.

Power Consumption: I wanted to plan meals that do not require vast amounts of energy zapping stove-top and range preparation. A little food for thought: did you know that it costs an average of 18-24 cents an hour to run a gas range, 24-30 cents an hour for an electric range, 16-20 cents an hour for a microwave oven, a mere 3-5 cents an hour to run a toaster oven or convection top. With this in mind, I will be gearing this month’s meal planning to encompass dishes that utilize minimalist power consumption standards. Meals this month will utilize my toaster oven and convection stove top for all my baking and needs.

Streamlining: I was a little apprehensive about whether or not my family will be turned off of the idea of food simplicity. I quickly realized that my family loves whatever I cook them, and with this, in mind, extreme food plan simplicity will give me an extra hour each day to devote to spending time with my family and not in my kitchen. In order to streamline my meal plans, to have a true minimalist food strategy I am going to assign each day of the week with a single meal.

Travel: I wanted meals that could be planned monthly in advanced and shopped for locally (I live in a small town with limited mass shopping or chain retailer options) either weekly or monthly, depending on need. As I shop in reverse, buying groceries on rock bottom pricing and then shop from my pantry, this keeps weekly food costs low. And in terms of monthly shopping as a minimalist, this week was the first week this month I purchased additional groceries which can be seen below:

  1. To create your own minimalist meal plan, think about which dinners are your family’s favorites that don’t take too much effort to prepare.
  2. Consider which do you prefer to cook?
  3. Think comfort meals. Think simple and keep it basic.
  4. When creating your meal calendar this week assign one meal to each day of the week, taking into account school, work, and activity schedules. Leave your least busy days for meals that take the most amount of time to prepare.
  5. Leave one day open each week for creativity in the kitchen, for ethnic, slow-cooked, heavy on the ingredient, new to you from Pinterest meals for weekends or Tuesday and Thursdays when poser usage rates nationally tend to be 20-30% lower on average. Focus on energy, your own and your household power usage as well!
  6. Themes can be your best friend in minimalist cooking plans. Think Meatless Monday’s, Meatball Monday’s, Taco Tuesdays, Tofu Tuesday’s, Stirfry Wednesday’s, and Slow-Cooker Sunday’s!
  7. Adjusting two meals a week to meatless options can help lower your grocery budgets by a quarter each month. This month we will be trying to expand Meatless Monday’s to also be Meatless Thursday’s as well.
  8. This month breakfast, snacks, and lunches will be standardized. We will be having sandwiches for lunch, cereal, and smoothies for breakfast. And yes you could do without snacks and increase lunch and breakfast portions, but I find smaller meals several times a day work better for my health, and so that’s how we will be rolling.

So what does this leave me with? My new monthly minimalist meal plan will consist of default meals streamlined around items already on hand that requires less than a half hour to prepare and costs under $5.00 per meal to create.

So that’s all, everyone! I’m hoping that this streamlined plan will leave me feeling anything but restricted. With my family eating well and meal planning becoming more automated, I’m thinking of bringing back Family Game Nights!  Incorporating minimalism into my weekly meal planning will help me be a few steps closer to realizing my minimalist dream. That said, if this streamlined plan doesn’t work for my family this month I can always change my plan again!

I’m ready to take back an extra hour from my day, each and every day this month. I’m ready to devote more time to creative endeavors, taking advantage of work opportunities, spending time with my family, and not slaving over a hot stove.

So, that’s what we will be having this week. I’d love to hear what’s on your menu as well!

Here’s to meal planning success,

ClearPop Rapid Earache Relief Review

Disclosure: I received this product for free from Moms Meet (momsmeet.com), May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own.

There are few things worse than an earache. I can all too well remember when I had earaches as a child and so I can commiserate with anyone who has an earache, especially the kiddos. I also know moms today feel the same way about your own kiddos as well. That’s why I jumped at the chance to review ClearPop Rapid Earache Relief products!

Image result for clearpop

ClearPop is an awesome new over the counter product that uses biomechanics structure to clear fluid from the ear by way of the mouth. When children suck on the ClearPop, which is shaped and tastes just like a lollipop, helps to loosen mucus, which in turn unblocks the middle ear, where infections reside. ClearPop provides children instant relieve from earache pressure and pain. You can watch their video on it below for more information on the product.

I also love that ClearPop is medicine-free, sugar-free, and even gluten-free! The active ingredients are Isomalt, Xylitol, Citric Acid, Ascorbic Acid, and Lemon Oil, making it a safe and effective choice for at-home earache relief. I also know that I would much rather try this first rather than antibiotics for earache relief at home! To use, simply have your kiddo lie on their side, with their earache facing up. As the child sucks on the ClearPop, the suction created by the pop helps to relieve mucus pain and relief. Super simple at-home earache relief!

Here are some of its highlights:

  • Works in minutes
  • Kids think it’s a lollipop
  • Does not just mask the pain
  • Treats the problem by releasing the blockage causing the pain
  • In a clinical study 9 of 10 kids had reduced pain and 7 of 10 kids said it eliminated pain.
  • Safety handle~cannot be swallowed.

You can find ClearPop Rapid Earache Relief on Amazon.com and in 1100 stores nationwide. To find a ClearPop retailer near where you live, visit here for the full list of locations. You can also find ClearPop online at their Facebook page as well as their online site too!

This product is an affordable, convenient, safe way to treat your kiddos earaches at home and I encourage you to pick up ClearPop Rapid Earache Relief for your kiddos today! So now I have to ask, how do you treat earaches at home for your own littles ones? I’d love to hear about it below.

Here’s to earache relief,

Introducing the Awakening to God Today App

Disclosure: I will receive a compensation for me sharing this information with you. Thank you!

I’m nothing but a creature of habit. I start each morning with the same routine: I wake up, attend to my kiddos, get my husband out the door to work, have a walk on my treadmill, shower, and have breakfast while spending time in the word. So as you might have guessed, as I utilize journals and devotionals each morning I have gone through numerous devotionals over the years. While all of my devotionals have all been excellent in their own right with one exception.

None of these devotionals and journals were available to me when I am out and about in town. You know, the moments when you’re waiting for a doctor’s appointment or waiting in line at the store. Those perfect moments when you’d like to write in your journal, but your devotionals are always at home. Then steps in the devotional journaling app, Awakening to God Today.

Awakening to God Today a Devotional Journal App

The Awakening to God Today is a devotional journal that helps you enjoy your walk with God, with inspirational 8-minute devotional minutes with God at the start of each day. The app also helps you to learn to memorize scripture, pray, and journal as well. The app also provides users with lots of great ideas to build your faith, share scripture with friends and family, encourage and lift up others in faith, as well as to strengthen family devotions. Which as a Christian, is very important to me.

One of the aspects of this app that I loved best is its personalized feeling, which is due largely in part to the app’s creators, Gerald & Jeannie Long. The pair has experienced success and wealth based on the values of the world and also the suffering that comes from the death of two of their three children.  On their journey, God has revealed His grace and glory to them in most extraordinary ways.  And it is their own unbelievable journey that leads them to the creation of this app.

I also love that the ATG app allows users to add comments and photos. There is also a template you can use to help you jumpstart your journaling success. There is also a daily inspirational quote from the Bible prompt that you can use as a starting point for your journaling as well.

Also worth noting, the ATG app is the daily 8-minute devotional. So why the number 8? In Hebrew, the number 8 signifies new beginnings, so that’s why the app recommends you spend 8 minutes journaling with God each day. There is also a timeline feature that allows you to chronicle past journal entries. A helpful tool for charting my daily walk with God.

I’ve been using this app along with my Bible each day. It’s a wonderful way to begin my mornings on a deeper and more personal level when it comes to my daily Bible readings and devotionals. My favorite part?  I snap a pic of something I find that’s inspirational that day and it helps to set the temperature and spiritual direction for the day ahead. A feature that helps to remind me of what I have to be thankful for. This is definitely a glass-half-full kind of app!

Currently, the ATG is available in the App Store and Google Play. I encourage you all to check this devotional journal app today to help you in your own seasonal devotional journaling journey. You can check it out here.

So now everyone, I have to ask,  have you ever thought about using a devotional journal app? If so, I’d love to hear about it below!

Here’s to journaling,

Spring 2017 Plus-Size Capsule Wardrobe

Good morning, savvy savers. I know, I know, this post is a little late. But hey, life happens! Though we are in the full swing of the Spring season, it’s still a great time to discuss Spring plus size capsule wardrobes. So today I wanted to share with you all my finished Spring 2017 Capsule Wardrobe.

Just a few things to know about the creation of this capsule:

  • This capsule contains 34-pieces.
  • This is a plus size capsule, but each piece could easily translate to a smaller, more petite capsule.
  • I no longer work in a corporate setting. So my capsule no longer includes casual office attire.
  • I live in the deep south, which makes for mild, breezy mornings and warmer afternoons.
  • My capsule goal is to have each item in my closet work with at least three other items.
  • I don’t follow arbitrary numbers rule for my capsule wardrobe.
  • Jewelry, including my necklaces, earrings, and wedding bands, are not counted in my capsule.
  • I will only be taking my money envelope/clutch with me this coming season.
  • Also not included: two pairs of prescription glasses, a travel umbrella, and my various canvas totes for the library, groceries, and the weekend farmer’s market.

My current capsule wardrobe is built upon basic, year-round minimalist staples. All staples which will remain in my closet year round. This current capsule reuses several pieces from my Fall and Winter 2016 capsules. So this season I only needed to add a few more pieces to make for room for seasonally-appropriate outfits. Making this particular season’s capsule heavily reliant on three quality pairs of denim pants and numerous warm weather tops.

While I am continuing my healthy living journey with PCOS, which necessitates the need for continued weight loss, I am looking to wear loose, simple layers that allow me to feel comfortable but yet still allow me to accentuate my style with seasonal, stunning color. I will be wearing all casual attire this season, including meetings, church functions, community activities, and date nights with my husband.

This capsule reflects my current minimalist lifestyle and my plus size frame. The beautiful woman who proudly wears a size 16 (this is my year of truth so I’m going to be proud of the skin and body I am in). This capsule reflects my personal taste alone and is meant to only give others an idea of what may work for their own minimalist capsule wardrobe.

So, without further ado here are my capsule wardrobe pieces:

So, that’s it, folks! There is my capsule wardrobe for the several months. I am super excited by its simplicity and comfort. I am also looking forward to a more simplified, relaxed capsule this coming season. These pieces reflect lifestyle. minimalism is quality. The fewer pieces you own, the more often they will be worn. Not only that, you want a piece to last more than one or two seasons, you want to build a life wardrobe.

Overall, the one thing I tried to focus on in terms of this capsule, and minimalist clothing capsules, is quality. Each piece in this capsule will last more than one or two seasons. This is more than a seasonal capsule, this is part of my life wardrobe. These pieces are easy to launder at home. These pieces bring joy to my life and ease to my mornings, especially since my baby Sassy helped me pull everything together! She has always been one to be able to spot pieces that are frump-free and fabulous. Which is truly all I could ask for!

So, everyone, I hope this post will be a good reference in helping you to establish an affordable, easy stylish wardrobe this Fall and Winter. I encourage you all to look into creating your own version of the capsule wardrobe as well.

Here’s to being comfortable in all your own clothes,
