Lately, we’ve been hearing a lot of talk about that strange word we struggle to pronounce, Hygge (it’s hoo-guh, by the way). Explaining exactly what it means is tricky since there’s no direct translation for the Danish word. Which makes total sense because it’s more of a feeling anyway.

To me, Hygge is all about creating a sense of cozy, purposed intimacy into your best-loved and most utilized spaces at home. Little touches that help you to be able to connect with those you love, and finding pleasure in the small things. It’s also about mindfulness and being more in the moment.

One of the simple ways Danes stay so cheerful during winter’s darkest days. With rooms featuring airy, natural pieces, these Nordic spaces typically exude a cozy essence that adapts well to minimalist spaces. Especially important during times of year and condition where going outdoors or to public venues is unlikely due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Now, there are many ways to adapt and embrace this Danish way of living, which has been heralded as being one of the happiest on earth, you can bring some of these changes into your own space this season as well. Simple changes, that when added to your lifestyle at home, can help you bring invite in hygge into your way of being this Winter.

Now that you know all about hygge, it is time for you to learn how to bring it into your own home. Remember that hygge is all about simplicity and comfort, so you don’t want to break the bank finding items to make your house more comfortable. And here are three ways you can start incorporating Hygge into your home this season:

5 Ways To Bring Hygge Into Your Home This Winter

Favor Nature

Drawing inspiration from nature, hygge-inspired homes often incorporate a lot of wood, ceramics, and organic fibers into their dwellings and designs. Spaces filled with neutral colors, matte finishes, organic textures, and easy-to-maintain household plants give spaces a subtle nod to the outdoors. Especially important to forest-loving Scandinavians who seek to enjoy the outdoors indoors during the harsh, dark days of winter. It’s all about bringing the outdoors in.

Foodie Features

Few things bring more comfort than our favorite childhood foods. Dishes perfect for cold weather nights at home such as Etoufee, Slowcooker Cabbage and Potatoes, and Tikka Masala. Remember, most classic foodie dishes make excellent leftovers and can be easily made plant-based as well. When ordering groceries for your foodie features, be sure to stock up on drinks including sparkling water, soft drinks, and of course, beers like Melvin Brewing. Old-school meals that are easy to make, taste delicious, and will keep you warm on the chilly winter nights at home.

Create a Nook

Every hygge home needs that perfect place to curl up with a blanket and relax. Danes refer to this as their hyggekrog, their favorite, little nook. It’s a space where they can be at peace and feel safe while coming home from a long day at work or perhaps reading a book and having a cup of tea or hot cocoa on a cold, winter weekend afternoon. Nooks filled with layered pillows and a throw to add practical warmth to spaces. Textural details that help users disconnect and unwind from the noise of everyday life.

Good Reads

Because taking a break with a good book is one of the mainstays of hygge, especially in winter when people are cooped up inside, literary collections abound in Hygee-inspired homes. Gather your favorite books together and display your favorite, time-worn books that make your favorite spaces feel more welcoming and lived in during cold weather months at home.

Love the light

There’s nothing more un-hygge than harsh overhead lighting to instantly kill a hygge vibe. Scandinavians often sprinkle their rooms with golden pools of illumination. This is why you will want to keep candles on hand throughout the colder months of the year to help you achieve a true hygge-inspired space. Peppered with the soft glow of your favorite candles at home.

Hygge-Inspired Rooms

My favorite candles to achieve a hygge-inspired home? Aubert & Amandine Candles. These luxury-inspired candles feature natural soy wax and cotton wicks. Their non-petroleum formula means these beautiful candles burn cleaner, more evenly, and won’t burn out without allowing to use the entire candle. These long-burning candles, with an average burn time of 25 – 45 hours, smell incredible as well. And the best part? These candles are not “hollow” burning candles. Making them as lucrative as they are lux!

Some of my favorites include their various 3-wick aromatherapy candles including the Winter Candle, a limited edition apple cinnamon scented soy candle, the CALM 3-Wick Scented Aromatherapy Lavender Vanilla candle, perfect for relaxing evenings at home, the JOY 3 Wick Ylang Ylang Orange Scented Aromatherapy Candle, and the PEACE 3 Wick Scented Ocean scented Aromatherapy Candle.

Other favorites include the RELAX 3 Wick Sandalwood, and Jasmine Scented Aromatherapy Candle, the RENEW 3 Wick Lilac Scented Aromatherapy Candle, with beautiful nodes of crisp, spring mornings, as well as Aubert & Amandine Scented Candles Gift Sets. Including delicious, time-honored scent combinations including Lavender Vanilla, Sandalwood Jasmine, and Cinnamon Apple.

While most of us already own nicer candles, the Aubert & Amandine Scented Aromatherapy Candles, featuring highly concentrated aromatherapy essential oils and fragrances, help to transform everyday spaces into hygee-inspired nooks you’ll want to spend time in at home this season!

Friends, I cannot recommend checking out these Aubert & Amandine Scented Candles for yourself. Click here to see all their new limited edition scents and time-honored favorites too! Now I want to ask, which of these candles would you most want to experience at home yourself this season?
