Hello again, savvy savers! Today, I want to review the Writers of the Future, Volume 30. To begin, science fiction is not my favorite genre, but this anthology surprised me with the overall quality of its stories. Mind you, with the names of some of the stories authors, Greg Benford, Orson Scott Card, Larry Niven, Frederik Pohl, no surprise is warranted here. Surprisingly, ever storey in this volume was even in its delivery, quality, and plot-relatability to its reader.
Sever of the stories stick to a strict, and overall conventional science fiction themes, such as the ideas of alternative universes, matrix-like instances, and instances of character being able to negate their current circumstances in future time warps. The crown jewel of this collection is “The Haunted Seed,” by Ray Roberts. This story takes the reader on both an emotional and comparative journey into a sea of comparative thought.
This collection is a must-read for anyone looking to read retro-themed science fiction, in a new and refreshing way!
