Good afternoon, savvy savers! Today I would like to bring you another awesome book reivew, and this time, Miraval’s Sweet & Savory Cooking, by Justin Cline Macy and Kim Macy. For those who may not know, this book is written by the husband and wife executive chef and pastry chef duo of the Miraval Resort & Spa, a spa renowned as much for its excellent holistic care, as its top-notch culinary excellence. The Cline’s have been featured in publications such as EveryDay with Rachael Ray, Epicurious.com, SpaFinder.com, Fitness Magazine, and SHAPE Magazine. Plus, they’ve been a part of television show filmings such as Giuliana & Bill, The Tennis Channel’s Fit to Hit, and The Dr. Oz Show. The book is essentially a modern take on classic comfort foods, done in a healthier, more organic approach. Some of the awesome recipes include the Venison Chili, the Veal with Caramelized Pears and Sage, to the savory Roasted Corn Soup, Roasted Vegetable, to the succulent Sweet Potato Strudels, and the Trail Mix Cookies! Another favorite of this book were the Fluffy-Gluten-Free Pancakes!
The recipe sections are divided as follows:
- Kim’s Breakfast Treats, Quick Breads, And Yeast Breads
- Justin’s Soups, Salads, And Appetizers
- Justin’s Main Dishes
- Miraval Basics, Accents, And Side Dishes
- Kim’s Cookies, Bars, And Baked Goods
- Kim’s Cakes, Custards, And Other Desserts
Also worth mentioning is the clever way in which the recipes all provide clear instructions, portion sizing, caloric intake references, and sizes, and nutritional breakdowns. This is of course in addition to the awesome illustrated photos of these dishes, which all but inspire the readers to immediately head to your kitchen!
