August 2014 Bulu Box Unboxing!

IMG_0439

Hello again, savvy savers! Today finds us with another great Boxed Subscription review, and this time the July 2014 Bulu Box!

  • The Bulu Box is a health-inspired subscription box, and one of my favorite services.
  • Like most subscription boxes, Bulu also includes a few cards on the product and the theme of the month.
  • Included in the July box was the  Beanfields Bean & Rice Chips in Barbecue flavor. These were really good; and had a retail value of $3.00.
  • Next up was a mini protein bar by Power Crunch, in vanilla creme, which was very tasty, crispy, and light, and my favorite of the box; this product had a retail value of $1.79.
  • The next item in the box was an herbal sleep aid by bioterra herbs; these pills have worked well, without any side-effects, and had a retail value of $7.00.
  • The box also included the antiseptci spray, Wounds by Puracyn; I have used this before and its awesome, and had a retail value of $12.50
  • Next up were samples of herbal teas for use during diets and menopause; retail value of $1.50 per bag.
  • The last item in the box was Chike high protein coffee mix. This has protein and espresso; the retail value of this product is $1.50.
  • Overall, the Bulu Box had a great selection of products.  Based on my calculations this box was worth $31.69, and is a great value considering the subscription service costs $15.00 quarterly, and only $5.00 per box!
  • Overall Score: 4/5

Making More Out Of Monday Meals: DIY Taco Seasoning!

Good afternoon, savvy savers! Today, for the Making More out of Monday Meals series post,  I want to share with you my Homemade Taco Seasoning! Many of the ingredients you will have on hand, and those you do not you can purchase at the Dollar Tree, with the exception of the cumin, which often goes BOGO at Kroger and Winn-Dixie. I can make this seasoning, which I store in baggies or jars from the Dollar Tree, for only $0.15 per serving!

Compare this price with that of conventional packet seasonings, and you are at a 80% savings!

Here’s how I make it:

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon black pepper

Directions:

1) Mix all ingredients together.

2) Store in snack-sized baggies, hinge jars, or jelly jars.

3) This mixture will last one year, in a pantry.

4) Please note, 3 Tablespoons is equal to one packet of mix, to 1 cup of filtered water!

5) Enjoy!

Mia Tempo April Box

Let me begin by saving that this box was amazing! I had so much fun opening and trying out this box. This service, compared to many other I have tried comes with all full-sized items, from companies you love and trust, such as Ecotools and Tea Forte!

The presentation: This subscription box was well packaged, could easily be given as a gift, and its presentation is spot on, in terms of modeling itself after the take-home post-treatment session kits given to clients at the various spas I have been to over the years.

The boxing: the package opened easily, and included an at-home spa chart and self-treatment guide; the perfect antidote for a stressful work week!

The contents: Lemongrass Body sugar scrub and lotions, lemon mist face spritz, a box of tea forte, to drink after a great bath, and a 2 sided ecotools puff-ball and scrubber.

The cost: This is a quarterly box for $50 dollars, and the products retailed for close to the cost of the subscription.

Verdict: I loved the box, and would definately recommend it to others! Be sure to check out Mia Tempo to see what other awesome subscription box offers they make for you!
