If you know anything about me, then you are probably aware that I love to travel. Maybe it’s my love of taking in regional culture. Perhaps it’s the joy I feel riding in the car with the wind whirling through my hair. Or just my way of embracing my gypsy nature. Either way I just love a Summer road trip!
Each Summer as a family we like to take several fun, frugal, summer road trips. Whether we are checking out new regional eateries, stops along the famous Mississippi Blues Trail, long rides on the Natchez Trace, or getting into magical mischief in the New Orleans area, we are always up for a road trip.
One way we make sure that our Summers of fun can keep going strong is by ensuring that our car stays in tip, top, road-worthy shape. As a family we make a point of putting time in not just planning for our lodging, food, and fun but our road safety as well!
So, before you start your Summer travels here are our five tips for keeping your vehicles safe, sound, and secure this Summer season.
A road trip is no fun if your car won’t start. So, it’s vital to make sure your car’s battery is working properly before you start your trip. You can easily check your battery to make sure it’s strong and has clean terminals. A tip? A teaspoon of each water and baking soda, on a small rag can help you clean and properly neutralize rust and deposits on battery cable terminals.
Before any Summer road trip, always be sure to check out your car’s rubber! Take time to inspect your tires for any tears or bulges in the side wall. Make sure your vehicle’s tires have a good amount of tread left all the way around each tire. Also, check your vehicle’s owner manual to ensure your vehicle’s tired are inflated to the proper PSI. The easiest way to measure this? A tire gauge, which will help you make sure each tire’s pressures are set to your car’s specifications. Also worth noting, we keep a cigarette lighter tire pump in our car during Summer road trips should we need to air-up tired while on vacation. This saves us time and money over trying to find a fuel station with an air pump while on the road!
Be sure to check your brakes to make sure they aren’t work or need replacing, either at home or have your local service station inspect your car’s brake pads to make sure they don’t need replacing.
In order to stay ahead of any emergencies during our family Summer road trips, I always make sure to pack an road trip kit— a flashlight, blanket, first-aid kit, basic tools, tire jack, jumper cables, and reusable shopping bags. All items good for any emergency which might come our way. We store these goods in an ergonomic trunk organizer, so all of our emergency items are quick at hand and are secure in our trunk.
Before any road trip we set aside one weekend afternoon for a scheduled at-home, pre-trip checkup. To save on family vacations, we generally plan early week road trips. So, the weekend before our trips, my husband and I become weekend warriors, mechanic-style! We perform basic maintenance on our vehicle before heading out of town. Making sure to always check our wipers and top off both our coolant and wiper fluid levels. We also preform any necessary oil changes as well. Our oil of choice? Pennzoil Platinum® 10W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil.
We love Pennzoil Platinum synthetic motor oil because it comes with the assurance of PurePlus™ Technology, proven to keep engine pistons up to 40% cleaner, and is the toughest industry standard. We also love that all Pennzoil products can help clean out motor sludge that many lesser oils leave behind, and that Pennzoil’s PurePlus™ Technology helps convert natural gas into a 99.5% pure base oil. We feel safe knowing that Pennzoil is designed to allow us to drive an extra of 550 miles per year, or one extra Summer road trip, verses having a dirty engine alone.
What’s even better? While my husband is working on our pre-road trip maintenance, I can go online to Walmart.com and order Pennzoil quickly using their Site-to-Store ordering option. I love that I can purchase the recommended weight and grade of oil our vehicle requires from the comfort of my patio chair, or as I like to call it, my supervising station.
On Walmart.com ordering my road trip supplies, including Pennzoil Platinum® Oil are easy and convenient. Just pick out your oil, add it to your cart, checkout, and wait for your email to let you know your order is ready for pick-up!
A plus for me? I avoid the crowds by ordering online, either pick up the oil in-store at their site-to-store department, or have it shipped directly to your house. My Walmart even offers curbside delivery of in-stock oils, which is located right by the automotive section Pennzoil is found in-store.
An added bonus? Pennzoil products are currently on Rollback on Walmart.com, which can help families save even more money for their fun, frugal, family road trips ahead. I’m all about one-stop shopping, my friends!
So when you get down to the heart of prepping for a road trip, it’s all about being safe. Making sure you are following the rules of the road and providing your car with the very best products and supplies, including Pennzoil oil. For a vehicle that is in tip-top shape will have a better chance of staying reliable and efficient. Especially for vehicles on Summer road trips!
I encourage you to start preforming your own pre-trip car maintenance, and be sure to take advantage of the limited time money-saving rollback pricing on Pennzoil Platinum® Oil on Walmart.com.
